High fiber foods are the kind of thing that most people don’t think about on a regular basis, which is unfortunate considering how much they can do for health and well-being. Adding high fiber foods, including fiber drinks, to the diet can aid in digestion, promote healthy weight loss, and even lower risks for diseases like diabetes and cancer. With such benefits, it’s hard to imagine why more people aren’t stocking their cupboards with high fiber foods.
What Fiber Actually Does
For years we’ve been hearing claims that tell us we’re not getting enough fiber and that increasing our intake can have profound effects on our lives. But, many people don’t actually even understand what fiber is, let alone why eating high fiber foods is a sensible thing to do.
Fiber itself is a naturally occurring substance that the body cannot digest. It is commonly found in plants. While the fiber gets chewed up and becomes very small, it does not actually get absorbed into the body. Instead, it passes from one end of the digestive system to the other, doing several very important jobs along the way.
1. High fiber foods take a little longer to chew, meaning that they slow down the rate at which we are eating. This gives the body time to recognize when it is full and helps prevent overeating and the subsequent weight gain.
2. The fiber is then swallowed and makes its way to the stomach. While here, it mixes in with all the other food, slowing down the overall absorption of nutrients into the blood stream. One thing that slows down is the absorption of sugar, which means it is absorbed at a more even rate, keeping the blood sugar level from spiking and crashing. In addition to affecting moods and energy levels, this also helps prevent strain on the pancreas, which can lead to diabetes.
3. The slower absorption of high fiber foods in the stomach also means that a person feels full for a longer period of time. Again, this helps prevent overeating and weight gain.
4. As the fiber continues through the digestive tract, the little particles actually brush the insides of the intestines, removing built-up waste materials. This helps to prevent irritations that can lead to polyps and cancer, as well as getting rid of toxins that can lead to all types of illnesses.
5. At the end of the digestive process, fiber helps to gather waste materials and move them out of the body. A combination of high fiber foods and good hydration assure a healthy elimination process that keeps the body on track.
Getting Enough Fiber
It is recommended that the average adult should consume between 25 and 35 grams of fiber daily, yet most of us get about half that. The best source of this substance is naturally occurring high fiber foods, although there are good fiber supplements that can be used, too. Fiber drinks are another alternative and they can make it even easier to consume the recommended daily amount of high fiber foods.

Metformin has active ingredient which are isolated and identified. This compound belongs to a group of drugs called the biguanides. Metformin consists of two linked guanidine rings. Even though it has been used to treat diabetes for more than 3 decades the exact mechanisms of action remain more or less a mystery and it is only recently that the scientists have been able to diagnose the same. Metformin has a number of different effects on glucose metabolism. As a result of this there is improved insulin sensitivity in tissues like muscles and liver.
Advantages of Metformin also include decrease in gluconeogenesis or the synthesis of glucose from non-carbohydrate sources by the liver. The overall effect of Metformin helps to decrease glucose levels. But since Metformin is a euglycaemic agent, blood glucose levels don\’t fall below normal and hence Hypoglycaemic episodes do not occur. It also has various benefits on lipid metabolism and hence the lowering of circulating fatty acids occurs. It also helps to reduce VLDL which is also involved in causing cardiovascular disease like circulation of fatty acids.
There are various reasons for being overweight one of them is insulin. This form of fat is stored primarily in your belly. As the person eats, the blood sugar level rises. The more the level rises, the more insulin is released in the pancreas. Insulin can make you fat by acting on the brain to stimulate signs of hunger. This leads to the liver manufacturing fat and the fat cells in the belly to fill with fat. The best way to treat this form of obesity is to avoid foods that cause the highest rise in blood sugar. Taking medications that prevent rise of blood sugar levels from is also suggested.
All forms of bakery products, pastas, and foods made from flour, fruit juices and products with added sugar should be avoided. Fruits and root vegetables such as potatoes should be consumed only with meals. The sugar eaten by the body comes to intestines through the bloodstream, and into the liver.
Metformin contains glucophage which reduces sugar release from the liver to reach the blood sugar levels and raise them too high. Hence the body doesn\’t need to produce as much insulin that makes you hungry. Hence the liver does not convert sugar to fat. There are various other benefits of Metformin apart from curing diabetes and it is loosing weight. But Metformin is not effective when blood is acidic due to excess lactic acid. There are various researches which show that exercises raises lactic acid but does not cause blood acid levels high enough to reduce benefits of Glucophage.
Metformin helps in lowering insulin levels which are very helpful in curing diabetes. Metformin is also an effective treatment for different kinds of diabetes. Since it acts at the source of the problem it helps to fight insulin resistance and also prevents and delays the onset of type 2 diabetes which leads to impaired glucose tolerance and insulin resistance. It also helps to reduce risk of diabetes-related death, heart attacks and strokes various other diseases.

It’s no secret that Star Jones lost a lot of weight. And I’m not talking 10-20lbs here..she’s lost A LOT of weight. But how much exactly? The exact figure isn’t known but its estimated to be 150-160lbs (68kg-72.7kg)! Amazing! At first she wouldn’t admit that the weight loss was a result of surgery. It has now been revealed that Star underwent gastric bypass surgery to help with her weight loss. Although she did go under the knife, she still eats very healthy food and exercises. I’m sure the majorty of the weight Star Jones has lost was a result of the surgery, but I’d say theres also a fair bit of the weight loss was a result of diet and exercise (I have no idea how much exactly).
She decided to lose weight because she knew she was going to be leaving her job of 9 years. Here’s what she said…”When I was leaving The View, I knew that I was going to make a career transition, so why not make a full transition? So I said, “Go for it!”
What is Star Jones’ Diet?
I have three meals a day. I never miss breakfast. I’ll have a couple of power snacks in the middle of the day, like cheese or some almonds, because my blood sugar level will go down – then you find yourself gorging.I have a protein-heavy breakfast: an egg and a piece of some meat, like two strips of bacon or sausage. I often have fish – my favorite is sea bass with olive oil and herbs – for lunch with spinach.Lunch is almost always where I have my carbs like pasta or rice. Dinner is almost always veggies and protein, like chicken, fish or beef.
Her biggest weight loss tip is to half what ever is on her plate, whether it be at a restaurant, friends house or just at home. “Whatever is put on my plate, I half it before I start eating because if it’s not on your plate, you won’t eat it!”
She does cheat every now and then, but not too often. And she doens’t go overboard! “Once every two or three weeks I have some fast food. But instead of a Double Whopper with cheese, I’ll get a Whopper Junior” She also exercises regularly..and she isn’t afraid to tell us what she does! “I try to exercise every day. And now, for the first time, I’m playing sports, instead of watching them. I take swimming and tennis lessons at least three times a week. But the biggest thing is I walk every single day, for a minimum of half an hour!”
How much does Star Jones Weigh? How much weight has Star Jones lost?
“I’m about the same weight I was when I left the show last June, a couple of pounds heavier. I’m just a little more toned because I’ve been doing a lot more exercising. My weight is healthy. I’m within the guidelines suggested for my height at 525,” according to my doctor. When I walk past a mirror, I still see the size 26 girl. Star Jones Reynolds admits that as amazing as her makeover is, she’s not done yet! “I haven’t reached my goal,?? she says. “I don’t ever want to think that I’m there already! “I was a couch potato for many years, she says. “I do work out now because I know it’s necessary.”
